The funny side of t-shirts
Before the 1980s t-shirts were a fairly humourless affair having started as the plain white shirts made famous by James Dean in 1950s. During the 60s people began to customise their t-shirts using techniques such as tie-dying and the 70s saw the rise of the `Rock and Roll` t-shirt, featuring a picture of a contemporary band. The 80s and 90s saw radical changes in the production of t-shirts which lowered the price dramatically and so t-shirts became much more disposable and the comedy t-shirt was born.
Nowadays amusing t-shirts are everywhere, most people have bought, or been given, a comedy t-shirt at some point in their lives. Some are worn with pride, others never see the light of day.
Probably the 2 best known comedy t-shirts are `I`m With Stupid` and the tourist classic "My parents went to (name of place) and all I got was this lousy shirt!"
Comedy t-shirts can be loveably geeky such as the clever `There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary and those who don't.` Others are self-depricating like `I`m in shape. Round is a shape!` and `I beat anorexia!` (funny when worn by a larger person).
Other amusing t-shirt designs parody the logos and slogans of well-known brands such as the famous `iPood` shirt. Others feature a play on a popular phrase such as the iconic `Life`s a Beech` design.
Some funny t-shirts simply feature good old-fashioned jokes such as `I`m not as think as you drunk I am`, `He who laughs last thinks slowest` and `Sometimes I wake up grumpy; Other times I let him sleep`. Many of the jokes are light-hearted `battle-of-the sexes` gags such as `All men are idiots and I married their King` or `So you`re a feminist? Isn`t that cute?
These days you can even have your own comedy t-shirt printed with the design and slogan of your choice and delivered to your door. In most town centres on a Friday or Saturday night you will find a gang of stags or hens sporting matching t-shirts. Often the front of the custom-made t-shirts of hen and stag dos will feature a picture of the soon-to-be-wed with a funny, slightly insulting phrase below it. The backs often have the classic `L` plate image.
Funny t-shirts have become a staple of most stag and hen do packages such as those provided by stag do.
